## Edit user information

You can update the following fields:

* **Display name**, **First name**, **Last name**
* **Email**
* **Department** (dropdown)
* **Job title**
* **Language preference** — Set to "Use organisation default" or choose a specific language

Click **Save changes** to apply updates.

## Available roles

Users can have one or more roles. Each role grants different access:

| Role           | Access                                                 |
| -------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Admin** | Full access to all system settings and permissions |
| **Manager** | Can track learner progress and manage groups |
| **Instructor** | Can create and manage courses and content |
| **Learner** | Can enroll in courses and complete learning activities |

{% hint style="info" %}
A user can have multiple roles — for example, both Instructor and Learner. They can switch between roles using the role switcher in the user menu.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Role editing is disabled until the user accepts their invitation. Users with "Not Joined" status cannot have their roles changed.
{% endhint %}

## Manage a user's courses

At the bottom of the user detail page, the **Courses** section shows all courses with the user's enrollment status. You can **Enroll** or **Unenroll** the user from individual courses directly from this page.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.nadifor.ai/users-and-teams/users-and-teams/users/manage-user-roles.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
